Things....
A couple of things I have been meaning to post about.
1) A new budding friendship. I guess its not really new anymore but still budding just the same. Last year, May-ish, I started talking on the phone with a fellow blogger. The conversations started monthly and have progressed slowly to weekly. Or on days like today, three times a day ;-) We can BS about nothing or discuss deeper topics. I think for the most part we are agreeable but I think we are getting comfortable enough to disagree with each other. Though our conversations sometimes fly all over the place, they flow easily and freely. I have great people in my life but it has been a really, really long time since I had a friend that was MY friend. Wasn't also friends with my sister. Or my husband. Or better friends with another close friend. I could go on and on but I will just say, "It's nice!" and I hope it continues down this path.
2) Another sweet, crafty blogger that is so generous to a practical stranger I just had to post about her. We met at Kingsway this week while I was in the city and she had made a beautiful baby gift for Tyson, that included a blanket, a crinkly toy blankie, and a fabric ball. And so the girls wouldn't feel left out (or because she just a crazy crafter ;-) )she made them dolly slings and diaper bags. She snuggled with Tyson why I shopped at Gymboree and spent my Gymbucks. After the shopping we went and sat in the food court and just chatted. We met once last year when again, she made my girls dolly diapers and dolly blankets, just for the hell of it. She is wonderfully frugal and witty and I hope we meet up again in the future. The only pitfall for this lovely woman is her love of pirates ;-) j/k!

I.C.E
I am not one that is crazy about silly forwards. I might have a quick glance but more often than not I simply delete. However I got this forward from my Aunt and I thought it was too good not to share. I will be putting ICE in my cell phone the next chance I get.
ICE - 'In Case of Emergency'
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign
The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell(mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.'

Malanka Pictures
Some pictures from the night of Malanka. Most of these were taken by Adam with our little point and shoot. Its difficult to get that perfect picture with my SLR when I have a baby on the boob so its nice to have that little camera to just shoot with one hand.

I don't normally post something cultural ;-) but when asked on facebook "What is Malanka?" I thought, knowing she reads my blog, I would post the response here.
Malanka is a Ukrainian folk holiday celebrated on January 13th, which is New Year's Eve in accordance with the Julian calendar. Malanka commemorates the feast day of St. Melania. On this night in Ukraine, carolers traditionally went from house to house playing pranks or acting out a small play (similar to "Vertep" -- see above), with a bachelor dressed in women's clothing leading the troop. Malanka caps off the festivities of the Christmas holidays, and is often the last opportunity for partying before the solemn period of Lent which precedes Easter.
Last night, the Camrose Veselka Ukrainian Dancers (which Natasha dances with) put on their annual Malanka celebration. It was held on January 17 this year but the actual day is January 13. Anyway our celebration includes dances from all the groups in the club, a wonderful and delicious Ukrainian feast, silent and live auction, and a family dance to close out the night.
This was Natasha's second Malanka and she danced wonderfully. Ashley is desperate to get up their with her sister and laughs ( and awwwws) will be had when she take the stage next year. We didn't make it home until about midnight because the girls danced the night away once the family dance began. I even got out there for the Cadillac ranch and the Macerena. It was a fun but tiring night.

Warm Weather
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous outside so we have been trying to enjoy every minute of it before winter rears its head again. The girls have been wearing splash pants because everything is so wet. Natasha has been wanting to build a snowman for a while and kept getting the same response "The snow is not wet enough." Well with this weather the snow has been perfect! She got outside and built the snowman without any help from anyone. She was so proud!! However the snowman met his/her end five minutes after the girls came inside because a little beast of a dog jumped on him/her. She was mad for about one minute and then decided she would just build another one.

The Little Man
So Tyson has been sleeping with me a lot. From pro co-sleepers I am sure to get praise and from those against it I am sure, through the screen, I am hearing TSK TSK. As I watched him sleeping in my bed this morning I thought to myself "Why the hell wouldn't he like sleeping here." Its warm and cozy and smells like me, so really WHO wouldn't want to snuggle in and sleep there. PLUS for the lazy breastfeeder in me it is so easy to just whip "it" out without ever leaving my warm blanket.
Tyson reminds me of my husband in the way they wake up. Both seem very suspicious of the morning light and thus their eyes take a while until they decide to remain open. The picture of Tyson, his eyes barely open, screams to me "You want me to do what??" AND I am positive I have gotten that look from the other man in my life, who also happens to share my bed.

FINALLY...the skating post...
My internet is really pissing me off!! Its on again, off again attitude makes it hard to maintain daily updates without completely losing my mind.
Anyway this is our skating adventure from Saturday. Ashley was all excited to go but decided it was not her thing once she stood on the ice and fell down. She pouted the rest of the time we were out there. Tyson was bundled up snug as a bug and we never her a peep from him.
Natasha did wonderful. This was her first time (I know, bad mom) on real skates. I warned her ahead of time that she would fall down lots and it would take many, MANY tries. She would have stayed longer to keep trying but I was tired of Ashleys crying/whining so we called it quits. Anyway she used the chair and then tried by herself, then used the chair, and then tried herself, and so on. On the second last picture you can see a bench in the background. She left the chair where it was and went all the way to the bench without help from me or the chair. She did fall a couple times during her route but she happily got back up again. She was so proud to have made it all the way on her own. For the next 6 weeks, on Wednesday, Natasha will be skating with her kindergarten class and the grade six class from her school. I am going to try and go every Wednesday as well to help where I can and watch her progress.

Sledding
Today we had a major break in the weather! I am happy to report the thermometer rose above freezing today...YAY. Anyway I knew this yesterday and decided we would make the most of the warm weather and spend the day in Camrose. So after breakfast this morning we packed up skates and sleds then proceeded to town.

Visitors
So today some friends from high school came for a visit. We were quite close during the high school days but, with graduation and life, drifted apart. Now, thanks to Facebook and the journey of parenthood we have reconnected. However the key to remaining reconnected is to connect a little more often than once every six months or so ;-) It really makes no sense to keep reconnecting...just work at living in that already connected stage. Ok enough rambling Danica...I'm so tired. Note to self - DON'T blog tired!
Anyway we had a great visit and it was wonderful seeing how their little people have grown. Ruby and Nolan are roughly six weeks apart and both wonderful little babes. Neither of them made shy for me and both posed and smiled for my, always snapping, camera. I love little people!! Ruby reminds me of a little porcelain doll and her eyes are absolutely striking. Mr. Nolan is such a teddy bear with the biggest grin. He is a big boy but I think my toy selection impressed him and thus secured him to my side(in the event of a future brawl).
I was thankful for some adult conversation but none of the discussions would be considered HOT TOPICS on The View. As we were all nursing our babes we discussed breastfeeding, lack of sleep, infant milestones, explosive bowel movements, etc. We didn't solve any world issues but we had some laughs and shared some experiences which makes it a good day.
Thanks ladies but it needs to be done again, and again and again...sooner than later!!

Damn Cold
Since I don't have any (I think) childlike readers I think I am safe in saying:
Fuck this cold.
I don't swear often with kids around but this continuous FUCKING cold is ridiculous.
Since Adam has been home we have had awfully cold weather. He leaves this week, back to work, after over a month off and the weather looks to improve dramatically.
We have had lots of inside time together but with a newborn we don't feel like venturing out in this cold unless we have too.
This morning I woke up and our outside thermometer read -40C....-40C!!!!
