What are yours??
Mine include the following as well as some personal goals (which I will post later about):
1) Get healthy and exercise. Rather than put "loose weight" I want 2009 to emphasize getting healthy. My measure of success will be if I am exercising 3-5 times/week (for at least 30 min) and making healthy food choices. Obviously I think the scales will agree with a healthy lifestyle but I don't want the scale to be my measure of success.
2) Say yes to my kids more. Not in the "yes you can play with knives" way but in the "yes I will play lego with you." Too many times I am guilty of saying "In a minute" or "after the dishes" and then it gets forgotten.
3) Keep my home tidier. I need to determine how do accomplish this. I am not sure if I should commit to 30 minutes of cleanup in the morning and afternoon or do several 15 minute cleanups throughout the day.
4) Get in more pictures with my kids without groaning about what I look like. My husband thinks it looks like he is a single dad because I am in virtually NO pictures.
A resolution that I am not attempting this year : To stop biting my nails. Its my nervous tick, my oral fixation and something I will let be for the time being.

Twilight Series
My mom gave me the first book in the Twilight Series while I was in the hospital with Tyson. I started reading it late last week, skeptical as to whether or not I would enjoy this type of genre. Anyway I am happy to report, so far so good. I, in reading the descriptions of Edward, thought of Jane (Escaping the City blog). In my mind I picture Edward as a perfect being, almost statuesque or a perfect painting. It made me think of the movie and how finding a suitable actor would be hard to do.
I got the rest of the series for Christmas so my next 3 books are planned out for me.

Pro-Breastfeeding
I would not consider myself a LACTIVIST but I am definitely pro-breastfeeding. I am not shy about nursing in public though I try and be discreet about it because I know not everyone accepts it. Anyway Facebook is banning breastfeeding pictures labelling them as OBSCENE and tomorrow there is an online protest to Facebooks actions. I found this cartoon and thought it was cute and true. It will be my profile picture on facebook for the online protest.

Birth Story
This birth story was written on Monday, December 15, 2008. I have had some requests to post it on my blog but rather than retype it I am simply reposting it.
Last Wednesday I went to the doctor for my weekly appointment. We decided to induce on December 16,2008 because my blood pressure was on the rise again. I was already 3 cm dilated but did not think much of it because I dilated early with my other pregnancies.
Thursday I spent the day cleaning and took my daughters for hair cuts. My husband cleaned "his" room of the house and I made the comment that I think baby will be here before Tuesday. He told me to hush and think thoughts of Tuesday or later. Anyway I actually felt tired and went to bed before 11:00. I slept very soundly (had not in a long time) until 4:30am at which point I got up to pee. I went back to bed and at 6:45 I rolled over and felt a gush of fluid. I got up and continued to leak to the bathroom. I wanted to be sure it was amniotic fluid before driving over an hour to the hospital. I continued to leak for 15 minutes at which point I woke my husband and told him...its time, let's get moving. He was in complete disbelief and had to ask if I was sure. Anyway we got the girls up and everybody loaded into the vehicle and were gone by 7:50. We dropped the girls off at my parents and headed into Edmonton.
My contractions started soon after my water broke and I had about 3-4 contractions at 10 minutes apart and then they dropped to 7-8 minutes apart during the 1.5hr drive. I was joking and having fun with hubby but by the time we arrived at the hospital they were 4-5 minutes apart and increasingly uncomfortable. I desperately wanted to be in the shower.
We got checked into a room and they started IV for Group B Strep, checked my "progress" and did some monitoring. I was 4 cm and when the nurses were done checking things out, I put on my bathing suit top and hit the showers. I laboured in the shower for a good hour before the contractions started getting painful. I requested the nitrious (sp?) gas and continued to labour in the shower.
The contractions continued to get stronger, longer and closer together. Knowing I wanted to do it without an epidural I asked the nurses for a status update on my cervix to see if my goal was actually attainable. When checked I was 5-6 cm. The nurses paged my doctor because I went quickly from 6-10cm during my last labour. The nurse checked me again (5 minutes later) and I was 8 cm. The last 3-4 contractions were brutal but I was still laughing during "breaks" and they commented that I made it look easy. Anyway I was fully dilated within minutes and in two contractions had a baby boy. Tyson Aubrey was born at 12:27pm weighing exactly 7lbs. From water breaking to baby born was just over 5 hrs long.
Tyson was having some issues clearing his lungs an hour after birth so he was taken to the NCU for monitoring. He had blood drawn (for GBS testing) and remained monitored. Later that night, when his lungs didn't clear up, they did xray and started an IV for antibiotics. Tyson remained in the NCU until late Saturday afternoon when they decided he could be taken off saline and monitors and room in with me.
We had to wait around until Sunday at 2pm to see if his blood cultures came back negative and so he could recieve the full dose of antibiotics. Our NCU came in our room at 2pm and gave us the green light to go home. She removed his IV and happily sent us on our way.
The first 24 hours of seperation made our breastfeeding start a little more work. We are both figuring each other out in our own relaxing environment and things have been smooth since being home.
Thankfully my husband and I decided to take the Theme room offered to us and he was able to stay with me and baby the full two nights we were there.

Bath Time
The little man having a bath. He likes the bath provided he is covered with a warm wash cloth. Take it off and you better have some ear plugs ready because he sure has a voice within his tiny body. The displeasure is also heard during diaper changes.

Tuesday!!!!!!
So I had a doctors appointment today and my blood pressure is up again. My medication has been increased to control it until delivery day, which is Tuesday (induction). I am already 3cm dilated so really baby S could decide to come before then.
My mind is racing with things to get done. I am excited but a little shocked knowing only 6 days left.

Waiting....
Everyone in our house is waiting (along with others) for the BIG day. The girls are hugging and kissing my belly more and more. Ashley said tonight "the baby will come tonight." Natasha says almost daily "I can't wait to meet him." I sit and wait as emotions come and go with contractions. I wait for my next doctors appointment. We are living life and having fun waiting for the day but we are all just anxious to meet the little guy.
Adam and I have a friendly little bet going. Adam thinks he will be blonde like the girls and I am guessing he will be a red head like his mama. I actually think I will be the only red head in this family but with the sex and the day known there is not much left to wager on.

Swimming
I want to take the girls swimming again. We always have a great time and the hot tub would feel wonderful these days.
You know what the problem is?? I am having difficutly, with my expanded belly, successfully shaving my bikini line. I am lifting and moving, stretching and pushing things out of the way. It's not a pretty picture.

Baby Room
Two weeks today (at most) we will have a baby boy gracing the walls of this room. Don't worry, he won't be sleeping with a swing inside. Actually, aside from naps here and there, he will actually be sleeping bed side for a couple months. The twin bed is there for a couple of reasons. The main reason is for me. If baby is cluster feeding or having a rough night I have a place to lay down without disrupting Adam (while hes home). The second reason is we don't have another room in the house to put it in. We have our tv room downstair, a spare room (with queen bed), an office, and the toy room. It is also to have an extra bed around for company. Anyway this is the room.
Tree Ornaments
A couple of days ago the girls and I made some tree ornaments from a recipe in CHIRP magazine.
They had to dry for three days, so today was decorating day. We have some left to decorate. We will probably make another batch because of the simplicity of them.
Recipe is:
1 1/2 cups Cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup white glue
Mix everything together until combined. Cover and let sit for 30 minutes. Roll out (about 1cm thick) and cut into desired shapes. Let dry for 3 days and then decorate.
I forgot to add (thanks Kyliesmom for the comment) that not only are the ornaments easy to make and pretty decorated...they smell fan-fricken-tastic!!!
