Easter Sunday at Auntie Betty's...
What a woman Auntie Bettys is...I tell you. She orchestrated an Easter Hunt for 10 kids to ensure each kid walked away with the same amount. There were 5 rounds of hunts in which each bag had a sticker associated with a kid. Each kid got a sticker at the beginning of the round and had to find the bag with their matching sticker. Each kid got 5 individually wrapped bags as well as a brown paper bag and a toy/craft. That being said Aunty Betty wrapped 60 bags, individually, as well as the other decorations she had spread out amongst her property. She also put on dinner and had a craft table set up for inside entertainment.
Aunty Betty is my great Aunt so great great Aunt Betty to my girls. She is great Aunt Betty to the other little ones (some not so little anymore) you will see in the pictures.

Tag from Kyliesmom

1. I'm a gum addict! I can buy a pack of gum and it will all be gone within 1/2 hour. My husband swears I have the ability to sniff it out in the house as well. He will have a pack of gum for 2 weeks and I will find eat and polish it off.
2. I have a tatoo. I got it at 16 with the permission of my parents (my dad came with). It is (WAS) a four leaf clover with WIZ printed underneath. Now since pregnancy my tatoo looks like a big green blob with red writing underneath. Funny thing is the tatoo artist suggested another spot should I ever have kids.
3. I love bread dough. OMG I can't believe at 27 I have admitted this. As a kid we would eat it while making bread with my grandma and you would think it would be a phase easily grown out of....NOPE.
4. When I cut my toenails my pinky toenail is practically non existant.
5. I LOVE ketchup chips. They have to be Old Dutch and in the box. Also the redder the chips the better in my books. I will never take the first box, I always go 2 or 3 deep. I have also been known to only eat the really red ones and toss the rest.
6. I love eating frozen berries. My husband thinks I am crazy and has never heard of anyone doing this before he met me.
7. I had back surgery a year after Natasha was born. After exhausting all other options surgery was the only way to go and had immediate and satisfying results. Unfortunately because it took so long to get to surgery I still have loss of sensation in my leg.
8. I want to write my own eulogy and write future letters to my girls.
9. I am crazy for music and all kinds. I love to sing and dance though some people would argue I am not good at either. There is rarely a time when music is not on in my presence.
10. I was an elite world class athlete though never made it to the Olympics.

Coffee
How do you make your coffee? Do you buy pre-ground beans like Maxwell House, Folgers, etc?? OR do you buy beans and ground them at home?? Just recently I bought a bag of organic, free trade coffee at costco and I have been grounding at home ever since. Maybe people don't know the difference but I like it and I think I will continue. OF COURSE I still like my coffee from Timmies but I don't think I will go back to pre-ground again.

Obsessive or Enthusiastic???
With all this gardening stuff I can't tell if I am being obsessive or enthusiastic. I was just browsing costco.ca and I found some lovely plants that I would like to order. I found this:
Chinese Lantern Plant, common name for a herbaceous perennial (a plant that lives at least three years) grown in gardens for its showy fruit. It is native to southeastern Europe and Japan and can survive winter temperatures as low as -40° C (-40° F). In colder regions, it is grown as an annual (a plant that lives one growing season). It gets its name from the calyx, the balloon-like, papery, red covering over the fruit, which resembles a Chinese paper lantern. It is also called winter cherry, strawberry tomato, and alkekengi.
Chinese lantern plant grows to about 60 cm (about 2 ft) in height. It has egg-shaped or heart-shaped leaves that are about 9 cm (about 3 in) long and may have a wavy or jagged edge. The leaves alternate along the stems—that is, each leaf is on the opposite side of the stem from the leaf above. It has inconspicuous, white, five-petaled flowers hidden below the leaves. The flowers mature to form a bright, red fruit encased in the puffy, red calyx. The calyces, which are about 5 cm (about 2 in) long, cling in rows along the stiff stems through the winter. Chinese lantern plant has underground stems, called rhizomes, from which it rapidly forms new plants; it can spread aggressively and become weedy.
The fruit-laden branches can be added to winter flower arrangements, and the edible ripe fruit is used in jams. The unripe fruit is poisonous, however, and even the ripe fruit can cause intestinal distress if eaten in large amounts. During the Renaissance (14th century to 17th century), many physicians followed the Doctrine of Signatures, the idea that the shape of a plant suggests its medicinal purpose. They noted the bladder-shaped, puffy calyx, and used Chinese lantern plant to treat kidney and bladder disorders.

I LOVE this song and it reminds me of the movie Away from Her. I haven't heard it in a while and as I wathced the video I found myself crying at the end. Again, Alzhiemers...what a terrible disease.

Above is one of my news blogs. Next year I turn 29 on the 29 of J...my royal birthday. In my honor I would like to complete a triathalon. I will be aiming to complete the Olympic event which is 1500m swim, 40 km bike and 10km run.
The following year I want to kick off my 30s with a half ironman which is 2 km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run.
I believe I will have success. I used to be a swimmer and I am confident that will come back easily. I have done a 10km run on Mothers Day 2006 and I own a stationary bike at home. I know I can do this!!!
I am very much a goal oriented person. If I set a goal I will aim to accomplish it however if I say I am going to swim, bike and run for health...chances are it won't materialize. I know not a great mentality but sometimes you have to take what works.
The blog won't be updated a lot but if you interested in following it will be there.

Outside
We have been having such lovely weather which has led to many hours outside. The girls are swinging, exploring, playing, helping, etc. They LOVE being outside and now that they have splash pants (instead of snow pants) they can move around easier.
I have been doing lots clean up. Raking, digging, chainsawing, etc. We have lots of trees that fell down during the wind storms we had over the winter. I have been pulling them out and cutting them up into firewood. I love wielding a chainsaw!!! We were nervous about the number of trees that feel but after a walk around the property and happy to see tons of saplings ready to take their. I LOVE IT HERE!!!
We had to take Natasha into town for dancing tonight but returned for a lovely fire with hot dogs and marshmellows. I bought myself a new pair of ropers. I love how they are fitting gloves and leather. I may go buy myself a couple more pairs.
Something is wrong with Farleys foot. He was with us while we were outside, running by the quad, etc. He loves being around us. Anyway when we returned tonight I noticed he was limping. His back right foot is bothering him. I looked at and did not see any blood or injuries and he didn't whimper when I looked at it. Anyway I will watch it for a bit and if it doesn't get better to the vet we go I guess. Maybe he twisted it somehow??
My seedlings are doing really well. My pumpkins are growing quickly as well as my sunflowers. I know exactly where I am going to plant them and I can't wait to look my kitchen window and see a rainbow of colour. I have also planted some Datura which I can't wait to bloom. I know they are toxic but I feel safe planting them. They are STUNNING. The other thing I want to plant around the property is Tamrack (sp?). It is the most beautiful tree even if according to me. I love the colour it produces!!!
I am starting two new blogs which I will share more details about tomorrow. Right now I have to make my husbands lunch and get to bed. I secured him and his buddy tickets to the Oiler game tomorrow so I am in good books all around. That being said I am anticipating him spending the night which is fine because we have 4 glorious days together.

My Sisters Keeper
What a great book! I am not quite finished yet but so far VERY good. It is such a sad story that one day could very well be reality. It is about a family that has two children. At the age of two the youngest (girl) is diagnosed with a rare form of lukemia. The parents decided to get pregnant using a genetically created identical embryo to save their daughter. The savior daughter is used repeating to save her sister. At thirteen the young girl decides to file a law suit against her parents for rights to her own body. The story follows the family has they fight to keep their family together.
Its really sad actually and I really feel for the little girl who is suing her parents.

My Crazy Husband....

Playing - Another Video
This video was taken during our trip to Mexico, March 2007. The resort had a handful of animals on site which included these monkeys. They were very friendly and we winded up visiting them everyday. I had never been in such close contact with a primate before or touch one and it was one of the coolest experiences.

This video was taken with our video camera that, honestly, hasn't seen a lot of use. I could never get the videos loaded on my desktop because I never had the right wire. Our MAC laptop has everything I needed so I thought I would try it out.
The video below is of the girls spinning. Natasha wraps her arms around Ashleys' neck and spins her. It looks worse than it is and some people cringe when watching it...but they love it.

Finished...
I just finished 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I actually really enjoyed it. I read The Tenth Circle which was ok but a little weird. This story I found goo though. I really liked how it was written and the characters. Its not a nice story but any means, actually quite sad and disturbing.
19 Minutes is a read I would definitely recommend.
For those readers who visit my blog, are you a fast reader?? I consider myself pretty good paced. I wonder how many books "you" go through in a week? I think this book took me around a week. That is reading strictly at night except for today when the book was reaching the end/climax.

Ashley Flashback...
Pictures from the day Ashley was born. The things you remember and forget. I don't remember my mom taking my picture while I was in the shower. I do remember about 6 cameras flashing once my room was bombarded. I won't ever forget when my dad brought Natasha to the hospital. I looked at my daughter and I figured she dressed herself. However my dad dressed her and had her in parachute pants, a fancy shirt that didn't match the pants, a purple splash coat and a tougue that was 4 sizes to big. He did his best and left a lasting impression on me LOL.
I do have pictures of Natasha however they are all on film. My mom has a ton of digital pictures that I have to snag because she got her first digital after Natasha was born.

Gorgeous Weather
This gorgeous weather is giving me a bad case of Albertan Stupidity. I am very close to packing away winter boots, winter coats, and start pulling out yard toys, patio furniture, etc. However March is much like October in Alberta in the fact that you will rarely get through the month without seeing snow. In October I prolong putting things away and in March I am jumping the gun.

Last One for Tonight
It seems like just overnight Natashas' artwork has gone from abstract to pictures. She is taking her time and making a picture others can understand and get without her explanation. I think the change happened when I was complimenting Ashleys "drawing." Natasha looked at me and said "That's nothing but scribbles." So I brought out some of her artwork from her past and showed her the scribbles she used to do...she thought it was pretty funny and kept asking me what the pictures were.

Scrapbooking Photo Shoot for Grandma...
My mom called late one morning needed a HUGE favor. She needed some pictures for a scrapbook layout she was trying to complete. Easy RIGHT? Wrong. Natasha has to be just in the right mood for pictures otherwise its a fight and Ashley just won't hold still. Anyway so I dressed the girls in the requested items and set out. I only got a couple at home but tried again at Grandmas' as we had decided to head into town. These are the results and a link to the completed layout.

Naked Party...
We just came in from outside and the girls are stripping down for a naked party?!?!?! While they are turning our acreage into a nudist colony I thought I would start updating my blog with long overdue pictures.
My dear husband took half a day off on Thursday and came home with these. I am trying to load another picture but blogger has picked up quite the attitude today and does not want to cooperate.

Hump Day
Monday was a lovely but busy day as me and the girls headed into the city. We drove the west end to pick up a coffee table from an LP member. It is really nice solid oak table that has a lift up top. It needs a wipe down and some wood polish and it will look nearly new. Next we headed to the north side to pick up the dolly diapers Susan (LP Kyliesmom) had sewn. She had also made blankets and packaged them in baby gift bags complete with paper. My girls love them. Susan was so sweet. I searched for her house and finally it clicked I had her number in my cell phone. I called and she went outside and made herself visible to me. I walk to her door, a complete stranger, and almost fell to my knees, begging, to use her washroom. She kindly obliged....THANK YOU!!! Susan I have some pictures of the girls with their stash that I will post.
Next we headed to Westmount to meet my cousin, Dolci, and her three kids. We had lunch and then let the kids have two rides on coin rides. We walked down the mall to see my aunt but she was busy so we chatted while the kids burned off some energy. We parted and I took the girls to Telus World of Science. I haven't been there in years, probably close to 10. We spent about 2 hours there. I would have like to spend more but I had other places to go. Anyway it was really fun. The girls loved everything and were kind of spinny. They finished one thing and wanted to see something else. I would like to go back and have more time. There favorite exhibit was the body. Ashley loved the Fart piano and Natasha loved smelly everything and then looking at what she just sniffed. Some were gross, like butts and armpits.
After Telus World Of Science we hopped over to see Auntie Dana at work. Then it was off to Costco. We zipped around there and then headed to MP for my weekly coaching session. Auntie Dana came to the pool and picked up the girls and took them to her place. After I was done coaching I went and picked up the girls and headed home.
Tuesday morning we had swimming lessons. Monday was so busy I really didn't want to go anywhere Tuesday morning but alas we got up and went. To be honest I am tired of the swimming lessons. We have done about 5 sessions on Tuesday mornings and I am read for it to be done. We will finish this session and then I think we will be done until fall. After swimming I dropped the girls off at my mom's and went grocery shopping. I have not hit a 10% Tuesday in a long time and while I went in with a small list I went to the checkout with a full buggy. I went and picked up the girls just as they were having lunch. We left my moms and made a quick stop at the pet store for some new fish and then headed home.
I gave up on my book, No Country for Old Men, and have since started 19 minutes. I am enjoying it thus far and think it will be a relatively easy read....long but easy. I will try and revisit it later. I watched a movie tonight, Things We Lost in the Fire. It starred Halle Berry and Benicho Del Toro. It was good...I cried. I think I will start rating movies on the tear factor like the papers use boxes of popcorn...or maybe I should use boxes of tissues.
We have some new crafts to do tomorrow with the girls. They have been painting up a storm since I bought new paint and have played a lot with the homemade moon sand.
I am in a funk and seem to be very emotional. The thing that bothers me the most about it is that I can't pin point a reason behind it. Normally I find myself to be very level headed, go with the flow, and happy but lately I just seem to be funky (and yes I am showering.) I have been getting up in the morning to ride my bike again which feels good but I am tired but midday. The tiredness will pass once it is routine again.
I am tired now so I am going to get Adam his sandwiches together and hit the sack.

Next we headed to Westmount to meet my cousin, Dolci, and her three kids. We had lunch and then let the kids have two rides on coin rides. We walked down the mall to see my aunt but she was busy so we chatted while the kids burned off some energy. We parted and I took the girls to Telus World of Science. I haven't been there in years, probably close to 10. We spent about 2 hours there. I would have like to spend more but I had other places to go. Anyway it was really fun. The girls loved everything and were kind of spinny. They finished one thing and wanted to see something else. I would like to go back and have more time. There favorite exhibit was the body. Ashley loved the Fart piano and Natasha loved smelly everything and then looking at what she just sniffed. Some were gross, like butts and armpits.
After Telus World Of Science we hopped over to see Auntie Dana at work. Then it was off to Costco. We zipped around there and then headed to MP for my weekly coaching session. Auntie Dana came to the pool and picked up the girls and took them to her place. After I was done coaching I went and picked up the girls and headed home.
Tuesday morning we had swimming lessons. Monday was so busy I really didn't want to go anywhere Tuesday morning but alas we got up and went. To be honest I am tired of the swimming lessons. We have done about 5 sessions on Tuesday mornings and I am read for it to be done. We will finish this session and then I think we will be done until fall. After swimming I dropped the girls off at my mom's and went grocery shopping. I have not hit a 10% Tuesday in a long time and while I went in with a small list I went to the checkout with a full buggy. I went and picked up the girls just as they were having lunch. Tomorrow
Tomorrow is my day to coach in Sherwood Park. Normally the kids stay behind with my mom but tomorrow my mom is busy...so tag along they must. I have to pick up a coffee table in the westend and then I think I am going to take the girls to Telus World of Science. I haven't been to the Space Science Center oops Telus World of Science in probably 10-12 years. Natasha has yet to go and I think she will have lots of fun. Depending on how our day goes maybe we will make it a weekly thing. I would love to head back to the Alberta Museum again.
Anyway I am tired.
I started a new book, No Country for Old Men. This may be one book I have to close before I finish it. I really don't like the writing style. The author does not use quotation marks which I believe is taught in elementary school at some point. I guess not using proper punctuation is a literary effect that is just way over my head. I have a number of other books waiting in the wing so maybe I should accept defeat and move onto something else whilst I am still motivated.
I also watched a movie tonight upon recommendation of a fellow blogger. Away from Her. It is the story of a husband and wife, married 44 years. The wife develops Alzheimers. It follows the relationship through the early stages, moving to a home, and the progression. I like that, early on, she was made aware of her disease, read up on it, and was the primary decision maker when it came to move to a home. This subject touches close to home as someone dear to me suffers from Alzheimers at a very early age.
Well I am off to bed.

Ugh
I have, against all procrastination, put 6 out of 8 loads of laundry away. Because I depise this job so much I don't like admitting the sense of satisfaction knowing it is done. Here is to Wednesday when I do this lovely dance again!
I have also started clipping Johnny. I do this in two stages: body and face, and then legs (which both of us hate). He is greasy and will get a bath when all is done. With all the melting snow and soon to be mud he gets dirty so fast. Considering he is our inside dog the shorter the haircut, the easier it is to dry him off before granting permission to enter the house.
